ATOMS In-Situ Systems

ATomic Oxygen exposure and Measurement Systems

In-Situ Atom and Molecule Absorption Measuring Systems

Measures atomic or molecular density by resonance absorption.

Species is determined by the type of lamp and detector used.

Species include atomic Oxygen, Nitrogen, Chlorine, and Hydrogen as well as molecular OH, NO and CO.

Typical detection limits are:

  • 10^9 atoms per cubic centimeter for a 10 centimeter path (detection limit goes down in proportion to path increase). This detection limit corresponds to approximately 100 parts per trillion of a standard atmosphere.
  • 10^12 molecules per cubic centimeter for a 10 centimeter path (detection limit goes down in proportion to path increase). This detection limit corresponds to approximately 100 parts per billion of a standard atmosphere.

A typical dynamic range is 10^4 for a given path. This range can be extended by adjusting the path.

System is "plug and run" and includes everything required to make measurements.

System includes:

  • Atomic or Molecular spectral emission lamp which includes an integral shielded RF power supply and vacuum coupling
  • Photodiode including integral shielded preamp and vacuum coupling
  • Conflat Mounting flanges and adapters to lamp and detector assemblies
  • Control electronics module which includes:
    • Power supplies for lamp and detector
    • Microcomputer controlled phase sensitive detector
    • Serial interface to notebook or desktop PC
  • Software for acquiring and displaying real time atomic or molecular density data on a PC

In-Situ Atom and Molecule Fluorescence Measuring Systems

Measures atomic or molecular density by resonance fluorescence that is the same technique used by Resonance to measure atomic oxygen in the thermosphere. (WINDO)

Species is determined by the type of lamp and detector used.

Species include atomic Oxygen, Nitrogen, Chlorine, and Hydrogen as well as molecular OH, NO and CO.

Typical detection limits are:

  • 10^6 atoms per cubic centimeter. This detection limit corresponds to approximately 0.1 parts per trillion of a standard atmosphere.
  • 10^9 molecules per cubic centimeter for a 10 centimeter path (detection limit goes down in proportion to path increase). This detection limit corresponds to approximately 1 part per billion of a standard atmosphere.

A typical dynamic range is 10^4.

    • Power supplies for lamp and detector
    • Microcomputer controlled pulse counting phase sensitive detector
    • Serial interface to notebook or desktop PC
  • Software for acquiring and displaying real time atomic or molecular density data on a PC
